Good Points: We were sightseeing in the Cotswolds with some Brazilian friends. We found the hotel staff very courteous and helpful, and the standards at the hotel first class. For our friends, the welcome and general atmosphere certainly helped dispel the myth that the British are formal and unwelcoming to tourists.
Bad Points: Nothing
General Review: As stated above we were very impressed with the welcome and friendly atmosphere at the hotel. Not surprisingly, our Brazilian friends were paricularly impressed with the age of the hotel, as based on the date, the building was in use some 500 years before Brazil was discovered. As a general comment, much is made in the guide books and hotel guides etc of the historic features at the Royalist/Eagle and Child e.g., the leper hole and bear pit. I was given to understand that the former still exists under wooden trapdoor in the dining room of the Eagle and Child. As part of our historical heritage it would be nice if this could be on view, perhaps fitted with toughened glass in lieu of the timber and lit internally.

It was in the centre of Stow and very handy.
To offer a description of the room and to offer the choice of double room available. We were both very tall and because the room was at the very top and was in the eaves, we were having to duck our heads. The room was very warm at night although a fan was provided.
The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was lovely. Room was clean and comfortable, although no Sky and tv very small. Hotel was well placed and I would definitely stay there again.

Had character, comfortable bed, excellent location.
Slightly tatty in some areas (stains on carpets, flaking paint and wallpaper). Plumbing (toilet flush) not good enough. There should be proper napkins at breakfast instead of paper - if there are proper tablecloths then there should be proper napkins!
Generally an enjoyable stay which would have been perfect if some of the little details had been improved upon.
